On a drilling rig, data is not a report you read afterwards. It is a live stream that drilling and geology teams use to make safety and cost decisions as they happen. As a mud logger, I own that data stream, turning continuous raw readings into information a team can trust and act on. What the work looks like in data terms: - Real-time monitoring: I track multi-variable drilling parameters and gas readings continuously. This is time-series analysis under live conditions, where trends matter more than single values. - Anomaly detection: I spot readings that break from the expected pattern, judge whether it is a sensor fault or a real change, and escalate with a clear explanation. - Data quality control: I am responsible for calibration checks and validation at the source, because bad input ruins every analysis that follows. - Data integration: Samples and gas readings are recorded on different time and depth bases. I reconcile them into one consistent record, the same problem as joining mismatched tables in SQL or pandas. - Structured data capture: I convert physical observations into standardized records others can query and rely on. - Reporting for mixed audiences: I produce daily and end-of-well reports for engineers, geologists, and managers who each need something different from the same data. What this means for your project: Most freelance analysts have only worked with tidy, low-stakes datasets. I have worked where a wrong number carries real safety and cost risk, so I verify before I analyze, look for what does not fit, and report in plain language. I pair this field discipline with formal training in Statistics and Petroleum Geoscience, plus Excel, SQL, Python, and Power BI. If your data is messy and the decision matters, that is what you are hiring.
