As a dedicated volunteer mentor with MCR Pathways, I have the privilege of supporting young people—particularly those with care experience or facing disadvantage—through weekly one-to-one sessions within their school environment. My mission is to bridge the gap in educational outcomes and life opportunities, helping each young person uncover their potential and build the confidence to pursue it. Key Responsibilities: I engage in weekly 50-minute mentoring sessions, providing consistent, non- judgmental support and encouragement. Foster trusting relationships that enhance self-esteem, communication skills, and resilience. Assist mentees in setting personal goals, exploring career aspirations, and navigating educational pathways. Collaborate with school-based Pathways Coordinators to tailor support to each young person's unique needs. Impact and Achievements: Contributed to the significant positive outcomes reported by MCR Pathways, where 81.6% of mentored care-experienced pupils progressed to positive destinations (employment, college, or university), compared to 56.3% of non- mentored peers . Page 3 of 7 Supported improvements in academic attainment, with 87.8% of mentored pupils achieving at least one SCQF Level 5 qualification, surpassing the 66.8% achievement rate of non-mentored counterparts . Played a role in increasing school retention rates, with 70.7% of mentored pupils continuing their education into S5, compared to 60.1% of non-mentored pupils . Through this role, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of consistent, compassionate mentorship. It's a rewarding experience that not only impacts the lives of young people but also enriches my own personal and professional growth.
