~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As your Developmental Editor, I will look at the "big picture" and provide feedback with track changes and in an Editorial Report. These are suggestions meant to give you guidance and perspective on how to proceed with your story, so you can know whether your plot, characters, setting, structure, pacing, tone, etc. are solid enough, or if they still need tweaking.
- CHARACTERS: Are they believable, consistent & moving the plot forward? Do they add to the story? Do they go through a character arc? Are they likeable, relatable and worth rooting for, or against?
- PLOT: Does it make sense? Does it follow genre conventions? Is it fulfilling and satisfactory? Or is it boring, lacking, confusing or dragging in any way? Does it evoke the right emotions? Does it have plot-holes or loose threads?
- STRUCTURE: Is it hitting the right story beats at the right time? Is it missing crucial key elements? Are transitions used correctly? Are your scenes pulling their weight?Do the chapters end at the right time?
FAQ
When should I get a Developmental Edit? (Part I)
After you complete your first draft or, ideally, any other draft after that. In order to look at the big picture, we need a full picture to look at. We can't put the puzzle together if the pieces are missing. An ongoing or incomplete MS won't allow us to shape your story into its best version.
What's the difference between a Beta Reading and a Developmental Edit?
With a Beta Reading, I will tell you what worked & what didn't work for me, personally, as a reader. With a Developmental Edit, I will tell you what worked and didn't work in your story OBJECTIVELY, as a writer/editor. And I will go more in-depth pointing areas that need improving and how to do it.
When should I get a Developmental Edit? (Part II)
A Developmental Edit comes first and foremost. Why? Because it deals with the story and all its elements. It's not practical to spend money on a copy/line edit to fix grammar & sentences when you're gonna end up deleting or changing them whenever you alter the plot, setting, characters & dialogue.
Do you offer revisions or second passes?
If you want me to take another look at your manuscript after the order is complete, so I can assess the implemented changes made to the story, send me a message and we'll work something out.
Will you read my NA / Adult / Erotica manuscript?
My priority is YA, but you can send me a message with details about your story (without spoilers, like a query or a blurb), as well as genre and word count, and hopefully we can work something out!
What formats do you accept manuscripts in?
I work with Word documents (.doc / .docx) and PDF files.
Is my manuscript safe with you?
Yes. You own the rights (copyright) to your manuscript/book/novel from the moment you put it into written words. Sharing it with me won't change that. I will keep your manuscript safe, and I won't share it or talk about it with anyone other than you.
What genres do you LIKE to read?
Romantasy, Romance and Contemporary are my favorites. But I also like: Historical, Dystopian, Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Magical Realism, Paranormal, Supernatural, Crime, Mystery, and Sci-Fi. The key for me is to have some level of romance in every story, as the main plot or a subplot. I just love it!!
What genres do you NOT like to read?
I don't read Horror, Psychological, Epic Fantasy, or Space Opera. In both YA and Adult fiction. I also don't read Non-Fiction.
Favorite types of stories?
Happy-endings. Up-lifting. Swoon-worthy. Romantic. These kind of stories are the best. Bonus points for a touch of comedy or spice. Stories that captivate, resonate and evoke emotions. I also read more neutral or bittersweet ones, but no tragic or depressing ones if I can help it.
