Established and operated pilgrim accommodations in Tokushima, Japan, providing practical support to travelers undertaking the Shikoku Pilgrimage (Shikoku Henro). I have extensive hands-on experience supporting both Japanese and international pilgrims, from accommodation arrangements and local information to practical advice for their pilgrimage journey. My responsibilities included: • Operating and managing pilgrim accommodation from the ground up • Assisting pilgrims with accommodation arrangements and travel planning • Providing practical information about pilgrimage routes, temples, transportation, and local services • Helping travelers understand the customs, etiquette, and practical aspects of the Shikoku Pilgrimage • Communicating with guests and responding to their individual needs and questions • Supporting international travelers with Japan-related information and communication • Sharing local knowledge about Tokushima and the surrounding pilgrimage areas • Helping pilgrims adjust their plans when unexpected changes occurred during their journey • Managing day-to-day hospitality operations and guest communications I completed the Shikoku Pilgrimage on foot in 1998, giving me personal experience as a pilgrim as well as professional experience supporting pilgrims. After moving to Tokushima in 2017, I established and operated two pilgrim accommodations, developing the businesses from the initial setup through daily operations. This experience has given me a practical understanding of the Shikoku Pilgrimage from both the traveler’s and service provider’s perspectives. It also strengthened my skills in communication, information gathering, problem-solving, hospitality, and providing reliable local support. I am particularly interested in supporting overseas individuals and businesses that need reliable, practical information about Japan, Tokushima, and the Shikoku Pilgrimage.
