I will proofread your video game script

Whether it’s a text-heavy RPG with tons of dialogue and menus, or a point-and-click adventure with a voiceover script that’s being translated from another language, or a shoot ‘em up with a minimal interface with only a few words — just run it by me and I’ll make sure it’s flawless.

I offer three levels of service: 1) a final polish proofread, 2) a mid-level proofreading and edit, and 3) an extensive edit for the neediest scripts. This is because a text can require dramatically different time and effort depending on how much work it needs.

If your writer/editor is highly skilled at English grammar/spelling, you may just need a final polish. If your writer is average writer, go for the mid-level edit. If your text needs heavy care (e.g., was machine translated or written by a non-native speaker), you may need the full package!

No sweat! If I think your text needs more or less attention than you estimated, we’ll touch base and can adjust accordingly. I will never overcharge you for an edit that turns out to need only a final polish, even if you ordered a higher service.

I actually do work as a professional freelance proofreader/editor. However, since I find games so rewarding and fun to work on, I am happy to do them for less than the going rate. Working directly with you, as opposed to going through a clearinghouse as many proofreaders do, also helps cut costs.

You may be right, you may know what you’re doing and may not need a pro. But you know who else thought that? Everyone who has ever let a typo or twelve slip into their game. After all the work you put in, you don’t want to see a game reviewer point out embarrassing language mistakes in your game!

I don’t do translations, even though I know a bit of Spanish, because I don’t know it well enough to guarantee 100% perfection in any language other than English. Proofreading and translating are two very different skill sets.

If you are willing to do so, I do get a kick out of seeing my name in the credits of a finished product! On the other hand, it’s your game, and this is contract work, so if you can’t put my name in the credits, or don’t want to for any reason, there is no expectation for you to do so!

I use a word processor with a Track Changes and Comment feature (I usually use Word) to fix the text and insert any questions or notes I may have. This lets you see what changes I’ve made, and you can choose to accept or reject each change.
