The musical saw is an instrument with American frontier origins. It's a saw played with a cello bow and it makes a sound something like a theremin, a wailing person, a wounded animal, or a weeping violin. It's an incredibly unique sound- the voice of the saw has spirit. You can hear the emotion in every note and it's especially great for things meant to sound sad or frightening.
