I collaborated with artist Pippa Hale on the production of a documentary exploring the Ribbons public artwork project, taking on a multi-role position across filming, editing, audio engineering and original music production. My role covered several stages of the production process, from capturing footage and conducting interviews to shaping the final documentary through editing and sound. I filmed interviews, supported B-roll capture and conducted structured interviews to gather the material needed to tell the story effectively. During the editing process, I worked on narrative structure, pacing and the overall flow of the documentary, ensuring the visuals communicated the project’s story in an engaging and cohesive way. On the audio side, I was responsible for balancing audio levels, cleaning up dialogue and ensuring speech remained clear and consistent throughout. This involved paying close attention to detail and addressing audio issues while preserving the natural quality of the interviews. I also composed and produced original music for the documentary, carefully considering tone, atmosphere and emotional impact to complement the visuals without distracting from the story. Alongside the technical responsibilities, I contributed to the creative direction and structure of the film, working collaboratively to help realise the project’s vision. Taking responsibility across multiple areas meant balancing technical precision with creative decision-making, ensuring the audio, music and visuals worked together as a complete piece. This project allowed me to apply my music production and audio engineering skills in a documentary setting, developing my experience in dialogue editing, sound balancing, original composition, video editing and collaborative creative work. It demonstrated how thoughtful sound design and music can strengthen storytelling, create atmosphere and help an audience connect with the subject matter.
