During my tenure as a Staff Accountant at BDO Canada, I delivered comprehensive accounting, bookkeeping, and tax compliance services for a diverse portfolio of small-to-medium enterprise (SME) and corporate clients. Working within a fast-paced public accounting environment, I maintained the highest standards of financial accuracy while ensuring strict adherence to Canadian accounting standards (ASPE and IFRS). Full-Cycle Bookkeeping & Financial Reporting I managed end-to-end bookkeeping tasks, including accounts payable (A/P), accounts receivable (A/R), and complex general ledger entries to maintain precise financial records. By continuously reviewing daily transactions and posting adjusting journal entries, I ensured clients maintained clear and up-to-date financial visibility. Additionally, I assisted senior staff in preparing comprehensive trial balances, balance sheets, and profit-and-loss statements for month-end and year-end compilation engagements. Routine Account Reconciliations On a regular basis, I executed rigorous bank, credit card, and intercompany account reconciliations to detect anomalies and resolve discrepancies promptly. This methodical reconciliation process strengthened internal controls for clients and significantly streamlined the preparation workflows for annual financial audits. Payroll Administration I administered accurate bi-weekly and monthly payroll operations for multiple client accounts, carefully calculating wages, statutory source deductions, benefits, and overtime. Furthermore, I managed required compliance filings and remittances, including the timely generation and submission of annual T4, T4A, and T5 tax slips. Tax Compliance & CRA Correspondence My responsibilities involved extensive indirect tax compliance, where I prepared and filed regular GST/HST and provincial sales tax returns in accordance with federal and provincial regulations. I also drafted T2 corporate income tax returns and T1 individual tax returns.
