HabiMap Assistant - Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust

Jun 2026 - Present2 mos

upporting the HabiMap Officer in carrying out UKHab habitat surveys for the HabiMap project, which aims to update Gloucestershire's habitat map and support the goals of the Nature Recovery Network (NRN). This work also involves working with and training volunteers in survey methodology and use of Survey123, as well as landowner engagement, GIS data processing and BNG condition assessments. I am also working independently on a project assessing the accuracy of nationwide habitat maps using HabiMap ground-truth data.

GIS Officer - PTES

Sep 2025 - Jun 20269 mos

Utilising GIS software MapInfo, this role involved updating the Traditional Orchard Inventory through the analysis and editing of existing orchard polygons, investigation of historical orchard sites based on OS maps, and digitisation of orchards not yet included in the inventory. This process requires high attention to detail to ensure accurate data processing, as well as knowledge of orchard ecology for accurate identification from aerial imagery, and research skills to confirm orchard presence where necessary. I also assisted in carrying out the statistical analysis for the final report, producing concise and informative tables, graphs and maps to easily convey our findings to a variety of audiences.

Assistant Ecologist - Acer Ecology

Feb 2025 - Oct 20258 mos

During my time at Acer I gained experience conducting Preliminary Roost Assessments (PRA), Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA), and bat dusk emergence surveys. I have also written ecological reports, including Green Infrastructure and Net Biodiversity Benefit (GI & NBB) Statements, Construction and Environmental Management Plans (CEMP), Shadow HRAs, a Planning Condition Report for lighting, impact statements for turbidity, bird disturbance, and invasive species, PRAs, PEAs, method statements for bat licensing and orchid translocation, and licence applications, as well as contributing towards the production of LEMPs and HMMPs. Furthermore, I have had the opportunity to utilise my passion for GIS to create location maps, UKHab and Phase 1 habitat maps, Biodiversity Protection Zone maps, protected site maps, and maps showing recommended green infrastructure implementation.
