During my time in the quality control laboratory, I was responsible for testing raw materials, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), in-process samples, and finished medicines to make sure they met the required quality standards before release. I followed approved standard operating procedures (SOPs) and pharmacopeial methods (USP, BP, or Ph. Eur.) and worked in line with cGMP and good laboratory practices. My main task was chromatographic analysis using HPLC. I prepared mobile phases, buffers, and standard and sample solutions, and set up the system and ran system suitability checks before each analysis. I then injected the samples and processed the chromatograms to calculate assay, related substances (impurities), dissolution, and content uniformity results. I also assisted with other routine tests, including pH, loss on drying, disintegration, weight variation, hardness, and, where applicable, UV spectrophotometry and titration. I also handled the supporting work that keeps results reliable. This included weighing and preparing reference standards, calibrating and maintaining instruments such as balances, pH meters, and HPLC systems, and recording all observations and results promptly in laboratory notebooks and logbooks. I helped investigate out-of-specification (OOS) and out-of-trend results, took part in method verification and stability studies, and supported internal and external audits by keeping records accurate and complete. Throughout, I followed safety rules for handling solvents and chemicals and for disposing of waste. This work strengthened my skills in analytical techniques, data integrity, documentation, and troubleshooting, and it gave me a clear understanding of how testing protects patient safety.
