My part is broken/damaged. Can you still reverse engineer it?
Yes! I can work with broken or damaged parts. Often, enough intact geometry remains to accurately reconstruct the original design. Just send photos, and we'll assess feasibility together.
What do I need to send you to start the reverse engineering process?
Ideally, you'd ship the physical part to me (I'll provide shipping details). If not possible, high-quality photos with a ruler for scale, or existing 3D scan data (STL, OBJ) will work for certain packages.
How accurate will the final CAD model be to my original physical part?
Accuracy is my priority. Using precise measurement techniques and advanced CAD, I aim for a very high degree of accuracy. Critical dimensions can be held within typical machining tolerances, ensuring proper fit and function.
What's the difference between "Digital Capture" and "Full Reverse Engineering"?
"Digital Capture" is for when you provide 3D scan data (STL). I convert that into a parametric CAD model. "Full Reverse Engineering" means I start from your physical part (or photos/measurements) and create the digital model from scratch.
What CAD software do you use, and what file formats will I receive?
I primarily use SolidWorks for parametric modeling. You will receive industry-standard files like .STEP, .IGES, and .SLDPRT. 2D manufacturing drawings are provided in .PDF and optionally .DWG format.
My machine is old and parts are obsolete. Can you create drawings for a machine shop?
Absolutely! The Premium (Manufacturing-Ready TDP) Package includes professional 2D manufacturing drawings with all necessary dimensions and GD&T, ready for a machine shop to fabricate your replacement part.
How long does the whole process take, especially if I ship the part?
Delivery times vary by package (5-20 days). Shipping time is additional and depends on your location. Once the part arrives, my turnaround begins. We can discuss expedited options if your downtime is critical.
I don't know the material of my part. Can you help?
While precise material analysis isn't included, I can make informed recommendations based on the part's function, appearance, and common engineering practices. I can also perform FEA for an extra charge if you need to test the performance of specific materials.
Can you reverse engineer an assembly, or just single parts?
