I partner exclusively with California nonprofits to build the legal, financial, and programmatic foundation that funders require before they will even read a proposal. My work sits at the intersection of IRS 501(c)(3) formation, California AG/FTB compliance, non profit fund accounting, and grant readiness- the four areas where small California organizations most often lose funding before they ever apply. Formation & Legal Compliance: Prepare IRS Form 1023/1023-EZ packages, California AG Registry of Charitable Trusts registration, FTB Form 3500A exemption support, and board-approved bylaws with conflict-of-interest policies for California nonprofits. Tax & Annual Filing: Prepare and support e-filing of Form 990 / 990-EZ / 990-N, California RRF-1 annual reports, Form 199, and SI-100—keeping organizations in "Current" status with all three agencies. Nonprofit Bookkeeping: Set up nonprofit chart of accounts, perform monthly reconciliations, track restricted vs. unrestricted funds, and deliver budget-vs-actual and Statement of Activities reports that funders request. Grant Readiness & Writing: Conduct California-focused funder prospect research, write grant proposal narratives, align budgets to narratives, and build logic models/theories of change that meet funder evaluation criteria. Key Outcomes: Organizations leave my engagements with a "Current" AG Registry status, funder-ready financial statements, and aligned grant proposals positioned as low-risk partners for multi-year funding.
