I worked as part of Design Studio (Zone29), supporting the development and planning of an interior design project with a focus on furniture selection, spatial planning, client requirements and creating a balanced environment for student groups. My responsibilities included sourcing suitable furniture based on the project requirements, considering functionality, aesthetics, budget and the overall design concept. I researched and selected furniture pieces that worked cohesively within the proposed space while ensuring that the choices were practical and appropriate for the intended users. I produced detailed plans to help communicate the proposed furniture layouts and spatial arrangements clearly. This involved considering dimensions, circulation, furniture positioning and the relationship between different areas of the space. I was also involved in sales and client-facing tasks, providing suggestions and recommendations based on the project's requirements. This included helping clients understand different furniture options and making informed suggestions regarding suitable products, layouts and combinations. A key part of the project was arranging furniture to achieve an appropriate balance within student groups. I considered how the furniture could be organised to create functional, comfortable and well-balanced spaces while taking into account the number of users, available space and intended use. This experience allowed me to develop my skills in furniture sourcing, space planning, client communication, sales and design decision-making, while gaining practical experience in taking a design concept and translating it into a functional interior arrangement.
