I worked as a book editor at Macmillan Publishers for two years, where I edited over forty books including fiction, non-fiction, memoirs, and business titles. My job was to catch what authors often miss after months of writing, things like a character's name changing halfway through, dates that don't line up, or repeated words on the same page. I worked closely with first-time authors, ebook coaches and self publishing authors to clean up their grammar and sentence flow while making sure their personal voice stayed untouched. Before I sent any manuscript forward, I cut grammar errors down by more than ninety percent. I also trained three junior editors on how to spot mixed tenses and awkward phrasing, and I created a simple editing checklist that the whole team still uses. Even on four-hundred-page books with tight deadlines, I never missed a single due date in three years.
