What do I need to provide to get started?
Please provide your video file in the highest quality possible (preferably MP4, MOV, or ProRes). Let me know the exact timecodes (start and end frames) of the subject you need rotoscoped, and what format you need the final output in (e.g., alpha channel matte, green screen background, or transparent
Does the video quality matter for rotoscoping?
Yes, significantly! Clear, sharp, and high-resolution footage (1080p, 4K, or higher) with minimal motion blur yields the cleanest and fastest results. If your video is low-resolution, blurry, or shot in low light, please contact me first so I can check if it's doable.
In what format will you deliver the final files?
I can deliver the final output as a transparent video (MOV with Alpha Channel / ProRes 4444), a black-and-white luma matte sequence, PNG/EXR sequences, or a clean plate with the background replaced, depending on your project needs.
Can you rotoscope complex objects like hair, fur, or motion blur?
Yes, but highly complex elements like flying hair, motion blur, or transparent objects take extra time and precision. Please message me with your footage before placing an order so I can give you an accurate custom quote for complex shots.
Why is pricing based on the complexity and not just the video length?
Rotoscoping is a frame-by-frame process. A 5-second clip of a person sitting still is much faster to roto than a 5-second clip of a person dancing with rapid motion. I price based on the amount of detail, movement, and number of subjects in the frame to ensure maximum quality.
Do you provide the project source files?
Yes, I can provide the source files (After Effects, Silhouette, or Nuke) as an add-on extra. Please let me know at the start of the order if you require them.
What software do you use for rotoscoping?
I use Boris FX Silhouette, the industry-standard software for high-end VFX rotoscoping and paint. This ensures the highest level of detail, perfect edge control, and compatibility with professional pipelines (Nuke, After Effects, Premiere, etc.).
Can you provide the project source files, and what formats do you export?
Yes, I can provide the Silhouette (.sfx) project file as a gig extra. For final renders, I can export industry-standard formats including multi-layered EXR sequences, ProRes 4444 with Alpha, or matte sequences tailored for Nuke or After Effects.
How do you handle complex elements like motion blur or fine hair?
Thanks to Silhouette’s advanced vector shapes, weighted edges, and motion tracking capabilities, I can precisely isolate complex organic shapes, hair details, and fast-moving objects with realistic motion blur interpolation.
