FAQ
1.Copyright is automatic. Why register at all?
Registration does not create the right, it proves it. The certificate is prima facie evidence of ownership and creation date, which is what you need in an opposition, a platform takedown or court. Years later, proving you wrote it first without a record is nearly impossible.
2.What can be registered?
Written works such as novels, screenplays, scripts and lyrics; artistic works such as illustrations, character designs, packaging art and logos as artwork; photographs; design drawings;vedio . Software is a separate CPCC track with its own process, so tell me if that is what you need.
3.What documents do I need to provide?
1.Fill in the English form per my sample and your details. I'll prep translations for your confirmation; you sign/fingerprint Chinese files. 2.Your work as images/PDFs. 3.Provide local ID/passport; for companies, business license + Chinese translation. 4.Others(If need)
4.How long does it take?
CPCC's review period is 30 days from acceptance; in practice 1 to 3 months. My delivery date reflects the certificate, not just the filing. Contract recordation timing depends on the contract itself, so I confirm it after review.
5.How long does copyright last?
Under China's Copyright Law, protection lasts for life + 50 years (natural persons) or 50 years from creation (legal entities), extended to 50 years post-publication if published. Copyright arises automatically; registration only serves as prima facie evidence of ownership and date.
6.Will this protect my brand name?
No. Copyright protects the expression, not a name, slogan or product name. A logo registered as artwork protects the drawing; it does not give you exclusive use of the mark in trade. For that you need a trademark, which is my Premium package.
7.What is contract recordation and do I need it?
If you assign or exclusively license your copyright to a Chinese company, CPCC recordal creates a public record. This protects you against third parties with conflicting claims. Courts also often require it for the licensee to sue infringers independently.
8.Will you review my contract?
No. CPCC performs a formal review only; it does not judge whether the terms are fair or valid. I prepare and submit the recordation but do not review or advise on contract terms. For that you need a Chinese lawyer, and I can refer one.
9.Can a foreign author register in China?
Yes. China is a Berne Convention member, so foreign works are protected, and registration is open to overseas individuals and companies. No Chinese entity is required as the rights holder. However, to avoid language and payment barriers, foreign applicants usually use a local agent (like me) to file
